Updated: Mar 23, 2021

Welcome to our next baddass girl! This is Katy and she needs no introduction. She's been on the enduro circuit for a couple of years now and she's only 11 yeas old! We are delighted that she's one of our awesome women. She inspires us all to get out and ride the best we can - she's is a total ninja on a bike. Katy shares her story about how she got into mountain biking and where in Scotland she loves riding best.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m Katy ‘Kaos’ Mcgowan, 11 years old I’m in P7 in Primary School and I love to ride mountain bikes. I live in South West Scotland, near Kirroughtree forest which is sick! 🤟 If I’m not biking which is very rare I would be either walking in the woods or sometimes running.

When and how did your love of mountain biking begin?

I started mountain biking on a tag along on the back of my dad's bike at the age of 4. I went to watch my first UCI World Cup at Fort William when I was 4 and a half years old. Ever since then I fell in love with biking and I knew it was the right sport for me.

What has been your favourite trip or adventure?

My favourite trip has to be either the Fort William World Cups or racing at Glencoe! Every year we head up to watch the world cup and I absolutely love it. Racing at Glencoe was amazing, heading up on the ski lifts with stunning views at every direction. I truly loved racing there!!

Is there anyone who inspired your love of mountain biking?

I have loads of people who I look up to! My Mum and Dad have to be my biggest inspirations as they got me into biking and have supported me ever since I started! Some of my inspirations are; Rachel Atherton, Valentina Hõll, Tahnee Seagrave, Katy Winton and Jess ‘Rolling’ Stone!

What one piece of advice would you give to other women who are keen to get into mountain biking?

The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy yourself. You don’t have to ride huge miles or technical stuff just have fun being outside on a bike.

Thanks to the awesome Katy. We love your advice - have fun and lots of it! Thanks for being part of our series. You can check Katy out on instagram.
